Shamba Darasa means demonstration farm in Swahili. Throughout the year, we welcome groups of students that want to see how the farm works. Every college student from two agricultural studies has to visit the farm to learn from this different approach. We expect to welcome more than 500 college students in 2020.
We engage primary and secondary school students in tree planting activities and teach them about the importance of trees and taking care of the environment. This is done in collaboration with Digital Education Africa Network (DEAN), a Dutch NGO that supports schools with digital education and 21st Century Skills. DEAN considers environmental consciousness an integral part of these 21st Century Skills and engages students in practical educational activities such as tree planting.
